1969 L5T seat questions. was created by Noviastar

I just scored a nice L5T but was thinking it could use a long or double seat. The rack on the back is ok. But its missing the larger part of the shelf.

Does anyone know of maybe universal seats or ones from newer bikes that fit on it ok? I was thinking it has the normal seat mounting bolt holes but I could also mount it to the fender bolts.

I looked at some Cafe racer seats but they seem rather cheep.

Thanks.

There is a buddy seat that goes on the rack that could be reproduced pretty easily.

Yamaha probably made a street YL5... no T.

A longer double seat, low exhaust, and no skid plate were usually the differences on the regular model.

I think Yamaha continued those models in parts of the world for many years and most were street versions with the long seat so you might find something on ebay

ok did some measurements.

with that in mind i think this could work.
Universal Seat

There is also the YL2-G seat but i wonder about the front mounting forks.
YL2 seat.

All in all i might need to pick one and do some tinkering.

There is also the possibility of just screwing the back of it to the rear rack bracket, from up underneath. But i don't want to remove that as its nice and welded on there. On the Universal the bolt holes are about 4.9in 12.5cm from center. So it would be close. Might need a bit of file work...

Any 2c to add to the pot? Ill look a bit more and try one out. Better check the return policy...

Well the verdict is in. The YL2-g seat fits nicely.

There is a gap between the seat and the tank. Think im going to figure something to fill the gap. But as im planing on siting back from it won't be a problem.

OH DON"T USE the aftermarket Ebay cafe racer seats. the ridge on the frame kinda prevents those flat seats from being used. Also they are short and the mount brackets won't fit. At least on a L5T or similar.
you can easily see the ridge in this pic. It goes right under the tank. So those under the tank lip brackets have no where to go and you cant get the seat down flat.
