Hello from NJ! was created by Kit S.

Apparently I made a profile years ago and don't remember! Not a surprise, I have been fighting with my bike for years as I have slowly gained skills and knowledge and just recently got it running.

I have a JDM 1970 HT-1. My uncle's friend's father purchased it new in Okinawa while he was stationed on the base there. The key for this bike is still somewhere on the beach over there, so if anyone finds it, please let me know! When he came back to the US he and his buddies strapped it into the bomb bay of a P31 sub hunter, which is how it ended up here.

After that, his son road it for a while, then it was sold to my uncle, who used it in college in the mid 80's. After that it was parked in my grandparent's shed before it was given to me and parked in my parent's shed, eventually moving to my garage after I moved out. In all this time, it had completed just 2770km. Now up to 2880 (1790mi) after my last week of riding around.

(Oh, attachments are broken, I will add pictures later I guess.)

 from near Salisbury, UK.

Great story of the bike's history!  Can you imagine the insurance claim form if the bike "escaped" on the journey home - "yes, this bike just dropped out of the sky and landed on my cat/dog/car/house!"

Presumably that model wasn't fast enough to need the 80KPH red line on the speedo, together with the corresponding big red warning light?

I can verify that it will do 87kph and that is it, lol. You have to be tucked in, the moment you sit back up its back down to 83 for you!

My memory is straining to remember but I'm pretty sure the "overspeed light" showed up later than 1970 in Japan?  I remember reading that allegedly they had trouble with speeding motorcycle gangs in Japan in the early 1970's and the warning light was made a law like in 1973 or 74?

Maybe somebody knows for sure.  I will see if I can find anything.
