I have been involved with bikes for about 50 years. Field bikes then road bikes and a couple of ‘crossers. 

I have recently come across some Yamaha two strokes through a deceased estate of a friends father. Not sure all of interest here but one I am confident is.

firstly a 69/70 Yamaha HS1 90cc twin.  I think this will be a runner fairly quickly ( famous last words)

second a Yamaha AS1C 125 twin street scrambler.  Running. Need to check if it is a “C” or standard with high pipes. 1967 I think. 

lastly more interesting here I think is a Yamaha RT1 360. Frame and engine numbers matching 021** so a 1970 I think from what I can find on line. 

there are lots of parts missing on this bike that I suspect will be hard and expensive to find. Seat,oil tank, clocks, top chain guard, air box to name but a few.  So will need to find out what other bike models will fit. It’s a long term project and I hope I can learn a lot from you guys.  Maybe a complete engineless  donor bike is the way to go.

CMSNL and Partzilla often show common fitment of parts - see link below to a recent thread on this topic.

Online parts lists and cross references - Vintage Enduro Discussions (yamaha-enduros.com)

Take time to familiarise yourself with what the parts you need look like, and then do a general search for these parts - many fleabay sellers accidently give incorrect info on what they are selling.

If your bike is fitted with a decompression valve, then check that this is isn't blocked with carbon. I think that the barrel needs removing to clean it properly.

If you want to use the lights, then fit a 6v voltage regulator.

I'm likely teaching granny etc here, but change out both sets of brake shoes - originals are still available from Yamaha and CMSNL will have the current part numbers.

I'm a bit of a technophobe, but I've managed to set up an Imgur account ok.

Welcome froim NZ. RT1's are my favourite so don't let it escape. Can be updated to an RT2/3 cylinder but id leave it as it is with piston port. Yours "might" have the advancer in the flywheel that retards off for starting which mine had & pretty much eliminates kickback but was "i think" one year only. After that don't set thepoints wide or timing past 2.9 btdc preferably a bit less. Anyway HS1 & AS1 has me drooling. Have had a few LS2 '100 twin' & i'm totaly guessing the HS1 is a 90 twin without googling tonight.

Thanks very much for the likes and comments. Lot of helpful info there already and something for me to do on the iPad investigating parts lists whilst my better half watches the tv in the evenings.

There is a decompression valve but not standard and is fitted to one of the spark plug holes. Not sure about the advancer. I will have to investigate. The bikes are all still with the estate executor and even though I am assured all is ok I won’t count the chickens until they are in my garage.

HS1 is a 90cc twin.

I will want lights but it’s a long way off I suspect. I will start a resto thread once the bikes are 100% mine.

If that's the RT1 in the foreground, then it has non standard tank, seat and front mudguard fitted.

yes lots wrong with the bike. Parts you list plus oil tank, clocks, air box, rear mudguard incorrectly mounted top chain guard and switchgear missing too

do I just make a working bike or try to find the right stuff?  Could be cost prohibitive. 

matching numbers though so may be worthwhile….

open to thoughts.

Once the bikes are home, are on a schedule to have all done? If not, tinker, as your name sez and keep an eye out for the parts you need.. yeah, parts cost, but one at a time makes it more manageable..

You are right sneezles61. The wife won’t notice as much either that way. I need to get them home as you say but I enjoy the hunt. We have a breakers for American bikes in Stoke-on-Trent not far from me that could be worth a visit. They are expensive but could be a good source. EBay in US is good but the postage almost doubles the price of some parts.
