Welcome to the board about IT's! was created by Makotosun

We have had a lot of interest about the Smurf-colored bikes that Yamaha made to compete on the international competition enduro scene! Seemingly little more than a YZ with lights, (only 61 parts were unique to the first IT400!) Yamaha was able to succeed where others had failed. Tell us about yours, your adventures and anything else related to these great bikes!

IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

When I first got the enduronut syndrome. I really liked the candy metallic enduros and thoght the plastic YZ and IT's were ugly. Well after seeing Gfrench's YZ 465 restoration, and learning more about Yamaha's, I really like them all. haha

My father told me the IT 175 was one of the best trail bikes ever made. I found a couple rollers with titles and went to pick them up. The guy that was selling them told me he used to race and out of all the bikes he raced the IT 175 was the best he said. He has bikes lined up, in his house, with trophies, on display. (He is single). He had over 40 bikes, mostly old harly davidsons with a mix of random Yamaha's, bultaco's, etc.

I also learned the IT engine was more powerful then the enduro's, it was made for competition. Thanks for adding this, Makotosun. OnFire

Very cool see a special thread on just IT's!

I love my vintage enduro's but when it is time to go into battle- there is only one bike for me!!

I was not real fond of the powder blue bikes at first glance back in the day... but after riding one my mind was changed forever- They are Tough, Powerful, and can take almost any punishment that you give them.

Here is how my 1984 IT 490 looked when I picked it up!

Always wanted a "White" Enduro so that is just what happened- This bike is so much fun to ride and is almost cheating with the way it just carves thru the rocky tough terrain.

Here is the Re-build thread that I posted up- yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forum/resto...h-1984-yamaha-it-490

She is standing proud at the top of the San Juan Mountains, Ouray, Colorado- tackled the 13,000 foot peak like a ride in the park!

I was also able to pick up a first year- 1976 IT400 earlier this year and cannot wait to get it restored and ride it thru the hills!-- this bike has some serious power as well.

Here is the End Goal for this bike- Will not take much to get her there!

This restoration will include a new Bore Job and Piston from Enduronut (THE only guy I trust with my bikes)!
I will also get this bike Street Legal with Title and Plate.
