DT360A petrol tank alternative. was created by Gr8uncleal
During my search for a decent 1974 DT250/360 tank, I came across one in the UK for what I assumed to be a MX250 from the same era. The shape and dimensions looked close enough to my DT360A tank for me to risk taking a punt on it.
It arrived today and initially I was disappointed to see that it was a smidge narrower, including the "tunnel". However, the length was the same and it wasn't so narrow that it wouldn't fit.
Here is a photo of it loosely fitted to my bike. I'll need to tailor some dampers for the front and obviously need a cap and tap (no reserve, I believe).
I think the the MX250, MX360 and SC500 might have used the same basic tank?
A shame about the 250 graphics, but my priority was for a tank with a nice clean inside, which this one has. I just need to source a Competition Yellow oil tank now (see my existing post for this).

Looks nice!
Make sure you get a decent petcock (fuel tap) as many are sold that will "fit" but don't flow enough fuel for a 360.

Thanks Mark - Gr8auntiepat likes it as well!
There appear to be some genuine new Yamaha caps and taps available, so I might splash the cash on those.

I have a very clean tank (1975 Enduro 250 original) I just blasted. NO paint at all. Was getting ready to make it the same color as my green DT. It has no paint on it, but it appears in excellent shape. I also have the decal for the 360 and a new sight glass. Not sure you want to ship it across the pond or not. I'll post up a pic in a bit.

Thanks for the offer. However, on an earlier thread of mine regarding tank interchangeability (1974 to 1976), Schu (I think!) said that the 1975/6 tank fouls on the 1974 frame.

Mark, is this the sort of part you were thinking about, where they have shoehorned two inlets into the one hole?
Thanks.

Not necessarily. Even one without reserve can flow terrible. You'd have to inspect the passage sizes as some have tiny internal passages.
Best thing is to do a flow test if you're not sure...

Thanks Mark.
I've ordered a new genuine Yamaha one, together with a new cap.
