would powder coating ruin my swing arm bushings? was created by hcdiiiga
Yamaha DT3. I planned on powder coating the frame, and then I saw all the trouble some people have had removing the nylon pivot bushings. Powder coating would cook them wouldn't it? I guess I have to make a choice between paint and bushing wrestling.

I suggest that you replace them with the bronze bushings since you have it apart.

I powder coat parts 2-3 times a week. I always remove any nylon, rubber bushing, or plastic parts. I had stored 2 plastic ammo boxes full of ammo temporarily in the oven and forgot. After turning it on about 10 minutes I smelled something funny, opened the door and the boxes were starting to melt. That could have been real bad. I'd say pull the bushings.

If powdercoating you'll want to ask them to protect areas where bushings and races press in... pain to remove and the thickness of the coating can cause issues.

OK, thanks for the info. Maybe my bushings will be easy to remove. I have an idea, but it's only half baked to get the bushing out:
expanding bolt
If it gets enough purchase on the bushing, maybe using an outer race bearing puller.

Bit of a hijack but there's a really cool ammo safety video out there where they use fire and even bulldozers to try and set off ammo.
Turns out ammo is not as dangerous as I thought it was... found the video... kind of fun to watch.

Well I have to fess up, after reading the post SCOOTER29 made, I thought “whew” I’m not the only one, I too about 25 years ago had a briefcase with a loaded Smith & Wesson 44 magnum, loaded 22 pistol and a few boxes of 44 magnum & 22 long range bullets and about 4 boxes of 12 gauge shotgun shells, I stashed the briefcase in the house oven, thinking if my house gets broken into a thief would never look in the oven, awhile later I decided to cook some biscuits and set the oven to 325 degrees, oven went through it’s pre-heat and when I opened the oven to put the biscuits in and saw my briefcase I didn’t know wether to run or hide or what to do, I turned the oven off & left the oven door open, later I removed my semi melted briefcase set it on the counter, luckily all turned out ok, I disposed of the bullets and shells at the local gun store and bought new ammo.

Another hijack. I didn't watch the video but....Back in 1975 my buddies and I....about 8 of us went over to Parker AZ to watch the SCORE Parker 400 off road race. We camped in the Blue Water wash and set up camp with a campfire and drinking beer having a good time. Well after awhile the campfire started exploding multiple times covering us in hot embers and basically scaring the crap out of us. Crazy stuff. The next morning we were digging around our camp and pulling .50 caliber stringers out of the ground. We found out years later that General Patton had been in the area during WWII and it was probably an ammo dump. True story.

okay, bored so had to search and sure enough somebody tried dropping a 50 BMG into a fire pit to see what happens.
Hopefully this link takes you right to that part.
Had to be an interesting campfire Scott!
