Front fender (plastic) painting was created by spudmanDT250

Hey folks...
I wasn't getting any replies in the "Yamaha Paint Matches" thread, so I thought I'd ask my question here as well:

Just a question regarding the often recommended Duplicolor DE1615 for the silver fenders...
I picked up an old front fender in real nice shape for my '75 DT250-B and I need to paint it.  Seeing as the DE1615 is marketed as a high heat engine enamel with ceramic, will it adhere ok to the plastic?  Also, does anyone recommend a specific primer before the final coat on plastic parts such as the front fenders?
Thanks in advance!

I have yet to paint any plastic but I would get a primer for painting plastic. I did a search and found this.

I've had  really good results painting plastic fenders, 250A and XT500E with and prefer this,

I've also used this on other projects and works ok, no complaints,

you MUST use bulldog adhesive promoter on the bare plastic before the silver paint or it will not stick

If the fender is old and original, scuffing up the existing somewhat "chalky" paint/plastic and spraying the DE1615 without any primer has always worked great for me.  Sticks great even when plastic is flexed.

New plastic or shiny slick plastic definitely needs primer.

Also wipe down either with wax/silicone remover with or without primer.

Hi,  I am in multiple motorcycle Forums one of which is the Kawasaki 750 Turbo forum.  There was a gentleman on the forum who was restoring his bike.  He has also restored many bikes.  By the results of his bike and pics of the other bikes, he has done, I would place him right up to a VERY EXPERIENCED RESTORER, to maybe even a PROFESSIONAL classification.   He had a complete thread on his restoration documenting all the processes and materials he used and that he had grown to like.

Anyway,  when it came to metal versus plastic,   His words were  "YOU PRIME METAL and YOU SEAL PLASTIC before applying the final paint product.   I will see if I can find that thread which I think you will find interesting.

Here is the link to the information.  His handle is RHODE WARRIOR.  He is also on several motorcycle forms.  This guy is very skilled.  You might want to go through his complete build as it is interesting and there are tips to learn and pick up.  The painting info starts on page 5.   THe plastic painting is specifically on page 6.
