1974 Dt360 where to start was created by 1974dt360a

Hi guys I just bought a Dt360 and clean the carb three times in my ultrasound bath and rebuilt with new jets and everything and it refuses to run. Giving it a shot of starting fluid I can get it to fire and run up to 7k easily but it will only fire a few times on gas every couple kicks. Pulling the plugs shows they are wet yet it doesn't want to run. Seems to spark strong all the time. It back fires often when kicking it is that bad timing? It runs great on ether with the carb completely off though so is it not timing?
my wiring is a mess and many things have been cut or are hanging loose. Perhaps I'm loosing some of my spark somewhere?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Where is the jet setter o ring located? The washer in the float needle seat is on if that's what you mean. Which jet are you referring to? Needle jet, idle, main etc?

Or do you mean the rubber o ring on the jet that sticks in the bottom of the bowl? I replaced that and it fits the bowl right. I set my float arm to be parallel to the carb body. Is this correct? My carb drips gas out the overflow if you shake the bike slightly. Does this mean I am too rich in float level settings?

Could mean your inlet valve is not tight any more and needs replaced.

And how would a key be sheered if it runs great on starting fluid or dumping gas straight in the intake with the carb off?

By inlet valve, I mean the fuel inlet into the carb from the fuel line coming from the tank. #2, the needle valve set, they call it here.

www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcy...74/dt360a/carburetor

The float rises to press the upright needle into the seat and close off the flow of gas to the float bowl. If it's sticking open, or if the needle no longer fits the seat properly, then it will allow gas to pass into the carb, and as it overfills, it will seep out of an overflow tube or bypass the gasket.

I rebuilt my carb after ultra sounding it in a hot water bath. The needle is brand new as well as all the jets  and the inlet valve. So I doubt I have any leaks but it's possible. I've had it apart 3 times now with no luck. Adjusted the needle and air screw all over the place and not much change. How would one go about checking the fly wheel key? Does the fly wheel need to be pulled? Can you check / adjust timing without pulling? I read that these bikes have an automatic spark advance. Is this true? How does that work? Are all 1974 Dt360's CDI ? How can I check my cdi and we're is it located?
