1975 DT400 Piston was created by jerryd68

1975 DT400. I have been working on my DT400. Since there was enough piston slap that you could hear it while it runs I have decided to bore to the next size and replace the piston. I purchased a 1 size over piston and ring from someone on this site. What are the recommendations for the machine work that will need to be done to the cylinder? Thanks

Bil Bune or Enduronut here at the Forums. Enduronut has bored many cylinders and he is my first go to. I have not had any work done by Bill Bune but I hear great things about him. Enduronut is a Moderator here and you can send him a private message.

here is a Link to Bill Bune. www.billbune.com/

I know he gave up porting cylinders but last I checked sometime back, he still was boring cylinders. I sent him a private message asking if he's no longer boring cylinders. we will have to wait to hear back from him.

The piston to cylinder clearances depend on whether you are using a genuine Yamaha piston or an aftermarket such as a Wiseco, the Wiseco will have different clearance specifications than the Yamaha piston.

In inches the spec in the manual is 0.0016" to 0.0018"... you can look it up yourself in the Tech Library.
