1975 DT400 float needle set was created by yamahoper
Started working on the triplets this week. I need float needles, part # 500-14190-25-00 doesn't look to be available. Anyone have a source or new number? Thank you

Do you mean Needle Valve Assembly (sorry to be pedantic!)?
If no luck in the US, then CMSNL in Europe are showing as having 2 currently in stock. Jolly expensive, though, at 60.5 Euros each!

Speed and Sport has one... but they want $70 for it.

Take a close look at the needle seat... the part that screws into the carb. Should have a number on it. Something like 2.5 or 3.0. You should also see the Mikuni "Square with a smaller square inside the corner" stamping.
Often this number is located on the end of the threaded end... so you need to unscrew the seat from the carb. Sometimes it's on one of the flats for the wrench.
Now go to a good bike shop or contact Sudco or other Mikuni parts place. They only have a few different needle/seat assemblies to fit the the VM carbs... it's a pretty universal part.
Size is the opening in millimeters... bigger number = bigger hole = allows more fuel to flow. Bigger valves may not seal as well. Going too big is not a good idea as bigger leaks easier. Obviously, too small is not good either... could starve for fuel as bowl won't fill fast enough. (Especially the way you ride!) Probably had a 2.5 stock?
I buy from Niche Cycle Supply on ebay or direct... you can get them for all four bikes (genuine Mikuni) for less than one from Speed and Sport.
Here are a few possibilities. Note that they have diagrams with dimensions.

One of the above is viton tip and the other is metal...
It might take this one:

Here's the page with all of them:

Thanks Mark your awsome! Great instructional! Niche Cycle has a very easy to use site. After looking at all 25 I narrowed it down to three and pulled out the callipers. The VM28 / 163 was a match with a 2.5 sizing. cost was $17.60
