Burning out H4 Bulbs was created by Triumphcubguy

My 74 Enduro likes eating H4 bulbs. Very bright light but only lasts a few seconds on anything above idle. also taking out the instrument bulbs.
Are the H4s not as hardy as the incandescents? Would a 12V H4 type be a solution? No voltage reg. on this bike.

I have a 73 DT3. I added one of DEET's voltage regulators and I haven't blown any bulbs...and I have been reliving my past, which included 2 DT1's and a Husky 360, by revving my DT3 to 7 grand...ALL the time! The lights are always on (Florida law). You should strongly consider the voltage regulator addition...then go out and have fun. And yes, I may need a new top end or more one of these days but at least the bulbs won't need replacement!

I ran a 12 volt H4 in my 360 unregulated & worked good [on an RT1] no battery just head & tail. Would most likely have had a 12 in the tail but not sure--trial & error but not expensive for tail bulbs. I doubt i ran a stop light back then. If you're not running a battery & auxiliary stuff you could experiment with lighting charging wire options for a lower voltage at revs. Then again the bottom line is an ac single wire regulator as mentioned, so--umm--ignore my ideas. Back on my RT1 ride to work bike there probably weren't voltage bulb saving regulators around.
thinking back now, it was a huge headlight of an XJ650 so just about melted the tar seal at revs lol.
