74 DT250 Missing Flasher Can was created by Triumphcubguy

Just bought a 74 DT 250. It’s missing the flasher can under the tank. I see three wires that I assume are the connections. Black, brown, and brown with white tracer. I think I I need a 6V three prong can. The wiring diagrams show both 2 or 3 connections. Any help is appreciated.

Correct on all observations!

I bought a universal replacement for my 1974 DT360A, but had to pad out the rubber holder with a bit of old bicycle inner tube.

I think that MarkT (and probably others) posted on how you can use modern 2 wire units, but you'll have to use the Search facility to find the posts, sorry!

Do not buy a modern three wire flasher as they have one input, output to flashers, and output to gauge indicator.

On the OEM Yamaha the third wire is a ground and you'll have a direct short if you try to connect it to a normal modern 3 wire flasher.

A two wire will work or an exact OEM replacement that uses a ground wire as the third wire.

Yamaha flasher is three wire because it has a ground wire, not the same as most three wire flashers.

All you need is brown on one terminal and brown/white on the other if you have a good 6 volt 2 wire flasher relay.

The flasher terminal marked "L" is the "out" wire to turn signal switch... Brown/white

The other flasher terminal is probably marked "X" and is power "in" from battery... Brown

Black is ground and not used with a two prong flasher
