dt400 project was created by wayno

hi all, just picked up a project bike for the winter months, dt400 1976 import from states which i have to register after a dating letter, put a battery on it and only getting a rear light working so may be wiring problems, looked at the web but cannot find a replacement aftermarket loom anywhere, are they available or do i have to repair/remake another? wanted to check the wiring before a strip down just to know where i stand.

cheers wayne

Hi Wayne,
I did the same 18 months ago, I don't know about the loom on yours but there have been differences on mine to wiring info on the web, the only problem with mine has been the fitting of a different ignition system with the 12v upgrade and that was sorted yesterday on here by another member. I was thrown a little after rebuild when the headlight didn't work, then realised that it only gets its feed when engine is running.

best of luck Keith

Thanks Keith, apparently the guy to contact about a loom is feet, had nightmares with a loom on a z900 I built a few years ago, ended up with a new loom so price depending, first as last.

It's a shame that the DT360A and DT400B/C looms appear to be different, as I might have a spare 360 one soon.

As good as a new loom will be,--what is so bad with your existing loom that it needs changing.

Nothing that I know of at the moment, from past experience with old electrics one problem leads to others, was testing the water as to what's available should the need arise.

I would imagine that the DT has got only about a third of the wiring that the Z has, so hopefully no insurmountable problems!
