1980 dt125 does not appear to have on/off switch for lights

 Just bought this bike and trying to sort things out when discovering no switch for lights. What am I missing here ? Thanks in advance.

Nothing.  To comply with Federal law starting in about 1978 USA models had an "always on with engine running" headlight/gauge illumination lights and battery powered taillight that comes on with key. 

(Headlight and gauge illumination is powered from the engine so engine must be running)

I'm guessing a little here, as I'm in the UK, but either the lights are meant to be on all the time, or there are two running positions on the main/ignition switch, of which the second one is for lights on (earlier models like the DT2 had this set up).

Exactly as MarkT says. I fitted a US sourced wiring loom to a UK bike. Caused no end of headaches.

No second position on ignition switch. I'll let you know what's the deal when I get it running.
