1979 dt250 wheel rims was created by Markymark

Hi all,

I want to get new rims for my 79 dt250, i know the front is 21" and rear 18" with 36 holes in each rim.

My question is will any late model enduro/motocross rim 21" and 18" with 36 holes and same width as standard fit upto the standard hubs, im just worried the way the rims are drilled might make the spokes uneven to the standard hub or am i over thinking this?

Cheers Mark

Disc brake and drum brake hubs, generally have spoke angles which are very different, so need rims drilled for specific applications.

In my limited experience building wheels [60 years since the first haha] but that was brand new pushbikes [box of spokes rims & hubs] in a motorcycle shop selling both bikes & M/bikes. Me thinking i'd start on BSA Bantams--!! yeah rite--in the corner boy--start on pushbikes.
But first sweep the floor.

Anyway not built a wheel in 30 years [well maybe the odd one] but i think' it is important to have the right rim or very close to it because of the angle the spoke nipple hole comes away from the rim.
I've seen some Doosey's coming out at a hell of an angle & not going to end well like that.
Oversizing the hole helps 'to a point' but not the best plan unless out of options & may need a washer under the nipple head after that.
Depending on how big it is on the brake side & small on the other side, the angles can vary hugely.
Probably more important with a big hub & a small rim.
Those old Yamy vintage YA6 125's or maybe was a later version whatever they were called had what looked like a DT1 type front Hub & brake plate but using a "16 inch rim.
Anyway, why am i telling you all this.
I know you understand the problems & don't need me to talk you out of it.
See what more up to date builders say or recommend. Best of luck.
