If you're not going to ride it, then you might as well just build life size models. No need for the internal combustion parts.

That is literally my dream bike. I love the color too. I dream about riding that to school, work, and the trails on the weekend.

When the heart overules the head.

Was not happy at the prospect of owning a show bike that I cannot ride without adding mileage to it and seriously devaluing it, so I made a decision to offer it up for sale and make room for another project that I could ride. I have a hankering for a CRM250AR or a XR400 to better transport my 16 stone frame from A to B.

Of course, I have my restored VFR750 to ride on the road (with no mileage issues to worry about), but looking for something capable of a bit of gentle off roading, yet not a modern bike.

The appraiser said if I ever sold it, it should go to a specialist vehicle auctioneers to get the best price, but that incurs susbstantial fees for transport and fees if it does not hit reserve, so decided to try ebay at a reduced price. Even then, I figured the price was waay to salty for ebay. Seriously doubted I would get any interest.

In the end it had 4500 views and close to 300 watchers.

Punted at serious collectors as an investment, I got no interest from that type, but did get 3 very interested punters and a mouthbreather who, after wiping the snot off his nose onto his sleeve, basically offered 25% of the asking price.

The 3 punters were very excited and found myself talking them down. Of those, two quickly saw my point that they could not ride it to local bike meets and such because it was the provenanced extremely low mileage that made it unique and valued as it is.
They quickly got my point and backed away.

The third was very keen and had formed a vision in his mind of riding on his home town seafront on it, just as he did on his new DT back in his youth. He was also, against my very direct advice, going to buy it sight unseen. A lot of money to hand over for a bike you have not checked over in person.

A Saturday night filled with about 15 excited texts and phonecalls later as he sat drinking beer and looking at the ad, it went quiet.

He phoned back the next morning and said he finally "got" what I was saying and was looking for a restored one with unremarkable mileage that be could ridden without severe depreciation.

I realised that my talking myself out of a sale, and the sick feeling in my stomach when I thought it was sold, meant I would severely regret selling it and I really did not want to sell. Edited the ad to explain to those watching that I was keeping it, and pulled it a couple of days later. It was up for about a week and a half.

Head stills says I should have sold it, but the heart had the final say. I think I did the honourable thing explaining about the mileage significance. It was, after all, the reason I was selling in the first place.
My work colleagues think I should have kept my mouth shut and let the interested parties excitement make the sale.
