DT2 Vape wiring install was created by Bartman512

Finally getting around to this box of Dt2. Came with a brand new harness and a never installed Vape Ignition as literally every electrical component was missing. So my question is after getting mag lined up, Ive mounted the new coil and rectifier on a metal bar under tank where the old coil was. I dont have a battery. I spliced the green/red, green and yellow to the red wire from rectifier. The brown wire from rectifier grounded to frame with the black harness frame ground wire. 2 other black wires from plug off rectifier to black one off stator harness as shown on Vape drawing. connected the brown, yellow and red off coil to stator harness as well. Tried pulling kicker through and no spark. I dont have the key ignition but i wouldnt think that would matter to get spark?

plate pointer should line up when your crank advance is set. It appears you probably did that. Its been a few months since I installed mine, but ...

I believe coil kill switch is BLUE off coil. Verify is not grounded unless engine kill active, ie switch off.

Make sure that you don't use the single black wire with a female connector that exits the magneto half way up, roughly alongside the carb. This is not an earth, but a wire to test the ignition or such like - use it as an earth and you'll get no spark.

Coming off the new harness I have a frame ground, (it came with the ring fitting so im assuming that's frame ground), a male and a female ground, I tried grounding the male connector to coil, nothing to female ground. I connected the 2 black off stator harness to black off new rectifier. Nothing

So blue from coil connected to nothing then?  That should be ok for testing .
also watch out the kill switch from bike harness is
black with white stripe.  Only grounded when main switch off or handle bar sw off.  Just clarifying so you don’t use it as a ground source .

Still analyzing your commens for soln…

To simplify, all you need for spark is the VAPE stator harness connected to the VAPE combo coil/CDI box.   The VAPE coil bracket and engine probably both need to be grounded securely to frame.

The blue VAPE coil harness wire should not be connected to anything, as PABDT said, if the VAPE blue is grounded = no spark.

All the other stuff about the stock wiring harness and the VAPE regulator/rectifier has NOTHING to do with spark.  You can (and possibly should?) leave all of that disconnected when troubleshooting for spark.

Last note is plug gap should be about 0.024", plug body needs to be grounded to good engine/frame ground, and spark can sometimes be very hard to see outside in the sunlight or under bright lights.  Best to be inside a darkened garage (or outside at night).

After nearly pulling my hair out trying to figure out the no spark, i pulled the brand new boot from coil to plug wire off and found it wasnt cut back far enough to make a connection! I raired that, installed plug and bam, got spark..Now to see if I can bring this motor to life today after 30 something yrs of sitting in the back of a shed!
