RT3 Turn signal madness. was created by pahiker

When purchased from BAT, the turn signals glowed under about 2500 rpm instead of flashing. Bike charging starts about 2500 according to the manual, so probably related to that. They recently started flickering at highway speeds. Bought a new replacement 2 prong flasher relay, it now flashed at low rpm and even with engine not running, but flickered at highway speeds, then stopped working. Opened up old flasher relay, didn't appear to be user serviceable parts, but didn't find any broken wires/connections. Stuck it back in the bike for the heck of it and now it works perfectly! Flashes at low and high rpm and with the engine off. Crazy! I hope it lasts. The "can" of the flasher relay looked like it may have been opened before or perhaps that's just the way it's finished. I wonder if I knocked dirt out of a contact somewhere when I had it apart, that would be my only thought.  If someone is having turn signal problems, this could be something to look at.

Don't ya just hate that haha, but great when it comes right even if there's no obvious reason. Vibrations can cause problems if not rubber mounted although the original i guess needs an earth wire to work. Keep us posted.

The stock electro-mechanical relay takes more current to function than the modern solid state relays. They also can get a little corroded inside. I have a NOS one that doesn't work. The battery needs to be good for it to work at low RPMs and even then it might not work properly for more than a few seconds until engine RPM increases. Also all the wiring, ground connections as well as the bulbs need to be good. Also the voltage and wattage of the bulbs needs to be correct. Even back in the day they were a little fussy, but we usually removed them anyway because they would get broken in the woods.
