Time to start inspecting and detailing the Front and Rear Wheels...

Will be installing new Brake Shoes as these are dated 2010- Great Job Rick writing on the shoes the date of installation on these.... A GREAT Process Everyone should follow.
This image is hidden for guests.
Another thing that I have found... is to use Windex to clean the tires if you want to show them as looking Brand New! Just spray and wipe them down with a micro towel- In the tread area a nice soft brush works good to work the Windex.

Got the first few pieces done for the rear wheel- now moving on to the Hubs and Spokes to get those cleaned up.

Even if I won the lottery I couldn’t build this. And certainly wouldn’t have enough to buy anything to put in it…. Shed envy.
I love taking stuff to bits - putting back together is another thing altogether.

Are those the same tires I put on?
Also put them on in 2010, and if they are I need to get me another set of Dunlop 606's.
Amazing work Greg!

Alright, dating parts I install is a new thing I need to do. What a stupidly simple but good idea.

Hey Rick- Yes same tires you put on... they are in Great Shape and will clean up very nice.
The Dunlop 606's are great indestructible tires for sure and just fit the look of the MX nicely!

It's been a bit crisp here in Texas past couple of days.... will be back in the 70's mid next week... this is why I live here!
So tackled the Cylinder today to first get the old base gasket removed... its pretty anchored down for sure... using a little heat and Penetrating Oil to get it softened up then getting after it!

Carefully using a single edge (New) Razor bladed was able to get under it and start removing
This image is hidden for guests.
Next will take my scuff pad with some WD40 and continue to work the remaining residue off.
This image is hidden for guests.
After working my fingers to the bone cleaning all the cylinder fins and crevices.... I decided to expose the edges on the fins....
this cylinder has a very good / Solid Black paint which is the way the factory may have had it back in 71?
I usually just like to do enough to break up the solid color but not go overboard and hit every fin... so kinda ended up here... we'll see how it looks once I get the bike together to see if I need to give it less or a bit more exposed fins for the right look... so far it seems to work

Now time to start getting the Very Special "MX" Head cleaned up and to get it ready to go... will be verifying the Timing first prior to putting the head on.

Now its getting Serious!
Christmas came early for me- Paint turned out amazing!
I have the new "250" decal to go on the Oil Tank... will just lightly scuff pad the paint and apply decal and reclear it.

Where did you get the new tank badges? I need to order some for my 69 DT1 and 70 DT1-CM.
