I'd have to look up the specs and maybe there is a UK spec... but yes, pretty sure the 250/360 of that era had about a 2.5 US gallon capacity tank. 175 is under 2 US gallons.
Many years ago I had the idea of fitting a 250 tank to a 175 and what I remember was it was just WAY too big, mostly length... I remember the seat would have needed shortening and even if the seat issue was solved, it looked "out of proportion" as well. My memory could be off, this was a long time ago.

Alan, here's my observations and hypothesis.
The tank which has the rubber strap hook that welds to the seam looks to be the same shape as the '71 model tanks I have, my CT1-C, a spare AT1-C tank I have and the CT1-C tank I painted and fitted to my AT1-E.
The other tank you have appears to be the same as both of my CT1-Bs, it has a larger hook piece for the rubber strap which welds onto the upslope of the tank, not the seam and also the underside matches mine with it's steeper angular changes around the airbox and front of the tank.
The paint looks very original on both tanks.
I believe both tanks are CT1-B, but the one with the smaller hook is late in the production run and the tank is of the newer design.
I have seen CT1-Cs with the two different style oil tanks (seam and no seam).
Am I right in thinking your frame is an example of this "crossover period"? Isn't it the later design with the rear engine mounts welded to the frame, my CT1-C has the separate bolt on mounts.
A DT/RT tank is a lot bigger than an AT/CT, I don't think you'd confuse them side by side.
I haven't fitted an early tank onto a later frame, but as I said, my AT1-E has a CT1-C tank fitted.

Alan, just measured an AT1-C tank as shown and it's 444mm long, let me know if you want any other dimensions.
If I feel helpful tomorrow and get a chance, I might check some dimensions on my CT1-B tanks for you.

Thanks Pete.
I did have my own suspicions that there might have been two styles of tank, but a) I've never seen or heard mention of this before and b) I would have expected a -01 suffix to the petrol tank part number.
Yes, I do have a very late frame.
Edit - typed this before your last photo uploaded!

I had never noticed the rear mount difference. I have a few old AT/CT tanks, I will see if I have one with the different mount.

It looks like one tank has a hand welded seam all the way round joining the top half to the bottom half. The other has a machine welded seam all the way round. As Pete has pointed out the hand welded hooks/lugs are bigger as on early At1 hand welded tanks. The spot welded smaller hooks/lugs are on the later tanks. Can't tell you if /when this carried across to CT1?
Same thing happened with Dt1 and Rt1 tanks. I often wondered when the change happened. I have had one red stripe RT1 that was hand welded and one that looked machine welded possibly putting the transition in the 71 model? The hand welded one looked like original paint but was pretty rough so not absolutely sure.
Anyone got 70 models with both tank welding?

I'm convinced the transition was late '70 production for the AT1s and CT1s.
There is an AT1-B tank on eBay UK (eBay item number:315485534170) with the later style and another AT1-B tank on eBay US (eBay item number:255911967666) with the early style.
Can't be sure, but just like Alan's tanks the paint looks original to me.

I'm sure as i can be that my "70 white AT1 magneto model is machine welded.
I just had a quick look while shutting shed & has the big rib along underneath.
I'll inspect it closer in the daylight.
