You need to post pics to a free site like Imgur and then link them here. This site has gotten too big and can't accept photo uploads right now. I will PM you my email if you want to email them to me.

You're welcome RT1, you guys did the hard work... wiring can get very confusing very quickly and you were able to help unravel the mysteries since someone had modified the wiring a little before you got the bike.
Great job and congratulations again!
P.S. I'm experimenting using Imgur to post the short start up video you sent me. I can take it down if you object.

NO OBJECTIONS AT ALL MARKT.
The difference in starting and idling was immediately noticeable. Very responsive to the throttle. Smoother running overall.
Highly recommend.
I'll be doing the same with my XS650B sooner than later.

Hello, I know this is an old thread but I am attempting the exact same thing on my 1971 RT1. Reading the previous posts, can anyone confirm if I connect the red vape regulator wire to -ONLY- the yellow, green, and green/red wires, or should I also connect the vape red regulator wire to the battery positive terminal in addition to the yellow, green, and green/red wires.
Thank you for the clarification,
Robert

Post #2 was pretty clear. And the way these threads go I probably repeated the same thing more than once.

That said, you can connect the VAPE to the battery if you want to. But it won't work like stock as you'll be bypassing the "one way" feature of the stock rectifier which will prevent the headlight from coming on unless the engine is running.
If you're going to connect the VAPE directly to the battery, then you might as well ignore both green wires and the only other wire connected to the VAPE red besides the battery would be the stock harness yellow wire that went to the original stator. Just tape up the greens. Keep in mind that if you do this, the headlight will run directly off the battery whenever you turn it on. Engine will not need to be running... and it's easy to ruin a battery this way by leaving headlight on with engine off. It doesn't take long for the headlight to completely drain a small 12v battery that fits in the stock box. Your choice.

Hi MarkT,
It was clear until I got to the bottom where you mentioned that If I were to design my own system of wiring that the Vape red "needs to connect to the battery + to power the original battery powered accessories", hence why I asked if I needed to connect the battery + to the vape red because you did not specifically mention so when wiring the 3 others together.
