DT1 Oil Tank Site Glass Replacement was created by Phils2888

I am replacing the site glass on my 70 DT1.  Does it require any kind of sealant or is it self sealing?

Some lube around the rubber so it slips in... Don't push too hard... If it goes right through... its a bugger to get out... and then you'll need another..

And it is easy to dent the oil tank when pushing it in. Another forum member placed the tank and sight glass in the sun and let it warm up. Also Yamaha still makes these. Get a new one, it will be supple. Not NOS from 40 years ago, it will likely be hard.

I used a plywood disc approximately 2" diameter to push it into place, no chance of pushing it through like I did on my first attempt using my thumbs

I put my tank in the sun and put the sight glass in the frig. Worked pretty well.
