Just something to throw into the mix......
After a discussion via email with enduronut about first reed valves across 250 and 360's - part of what he came back with - in Japan reed valve HT90 april 71, and GYT kit for same model may 71.
It appears Japan got a few models early.

As others noted above, in 1970 they only made the HT1 Enduro. In ‘71 they added the HT1 MX which used a larger flange mount barrel and carb (see attached). On that note, if anyone has and HT1 MX barrel and carb I would be interested…

Thanks for all the replies. Confirming the piston port makes me feel better!
I've attached a picture of my HT1B as requested.

Love the HT1 Jimbo. A ‘70 HT1 was my first “real” motorcycle so I am partial to these little bikes. Here’s pics of mine in ‘70 and my current one…

Looks like we all agree they were a great little bike. Mine got roadraced by one of my kids with it almost looking as bad as in my earlier post pic, just an xr tank as original was beyond rusted out. 55mph all day & never complained. Should be a video link up here somewhere from way back.

My first Enduro was a 1971 HT-1B in popsickle purple. Never did any maintenance to it just added Yamalube and gas back in the day, that doesn't work anymore.
