Key not staying in ignition. - 1969 DT1 was created by Quartermaster35

Just curious if anyone has ever dealt with their key not staying in the ignition..........

Obviously, mine is rusty and sat outside for an extended period of time. The key comes out on all three positions. I sprayed some penetrating oil in it hoping that the springs etc are stuck, but no luck so far.

(Hoping I can keep my original unit)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Common problem - I once lost one out of our RD200 whilst riding along and didn't notice until I got home! :EEEK :Ugh :ROFLOL Now I just turn on ignition and stick the key in my pocket.

I read on another forum of someone dismantling their ignition switch and managing to fix the problem, but that's beyond my abilities!

The switch itself is easy enough to open up and clean. The trick is either remembering how it came apart, or taking a number of pictures as it does come apart, so that you can get it back together properly. It's possible to reassemble it more than one way, and then you have things lighting up when they shouldn't and you windshield wipers going on automatically every now and then.
