Appropos this forum I have removed the CDI from the 175 and put it in a tin box, resting against a central heating pipe for a good ground, along with the spare cdi for the VFR750.

Overeaction?  Very probably, but for the sake of five minutes effort, worth it in view of the rarity of 7 wire CDIs.

The Original VFR CDI is still in place because it requires the removal of a lot of bodywork to access, I doubt it will be damaged and I have the spare.

Just got to explain to the missus why her shortbread cookies are in a plastic bag now...
