74 gt80 slipping kick starter was created by principal282
Aghhhh tonight after my points were set, I checked for spark. My kick starter seems to slip, like it kicks part way and then slips. I hope it’s a simple fix. Any ideas what it may be?
I found a switch, good, used , will clean it up and possibly sell the guts of old one.
Points set using deets write up.a little trickysetti g up the magnet in limited space but we made it. It’s now dead on.

First off, it'd be good if its just the lever loose & jumped a few splines although still annoying to fix.
But after that, read below which i wrote first.
I'm guessing it 'is' actually engaging, which is the gear moving out the twisted spline, but if #14 circlip had popped off out of the circlip groove the gear could move out further than desired & tension clip might escape past the end of its guiding slot.
Best to pull the cover & check it all.
Also be sure the tension clip #17 is in its guiding slot or won't tension the gear to move out the twisted spline & engage.
Check the intermediate gear the kick gear engages with & feel it for up & down to get a feel of the case bearing behind it. Actually might just run in a brass bush, i'm not sure.
Then also check the small gear behind the clutch which is the final gear to get things spinning.
Unfortunately the clutch might have to come off to get a look at the small gear.

Here's the clutch with small gear on the back of it.

In link below #22 is the intermediate gear the kick gear moves over into from beside it.

aftermarket is usually crap
any crossover with Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki?
About 135mm center of shaft to pedal
12.2 mm at the spline
