MarkT answered the question exactly. It closes when there is excessive compression pushing against the face of the valve. Like when ignition and combustion occurs. Thanks MarkT. If it does not start, you depress the valve again and keep trying until the motor starts and runs. The manual. The manual portion or the procedure only has to do with depressing the valve which allows some compression to escape through an orifice in the valve. Once internal pressure is great enough to override the valve spring pressure, the valve closes and seats.

That is the condition that you want to control.

Ignition/Combustion, with - No Start.

In this case, the Cylinder Vents and closes the Valve(UP).
With, no start -
Manually push the button(DOWN) and crank, again.

That is how I understand the workings.

Works the same as the Stock Decompression Valve,
except that one remains - Open or Closed, until the
lever position is moved.

I installed this on my daily rider RT3 which will let me know who's boss when I kick start it. Made a big difference. Makes me believe the decomp valve or hole in the the cylinder is plugged.

Also put a small piece of foam around the body of it to keep it clean.

For the adapter search Alloy Art CRA-1 on eBay.

For the decomp valve I use Harley Davidson part # 32076-04. Available from your local dealer.
