VIN tag question was created by DT175DOUG
OK, so the previous owner who "restored" my 1975 DT175 had powder coated the frame, so there was no VIN tag (sticker) on the frame when I bought it.
Thanks to DEET, I now have a new VIN sticker to put on.
Questions:
1) Does this sticker go over the top of the VIN # stamped into the frame?
2) I know it goes on vertically, but which way should the text be facing? Readable from the front of the bike or back of the bike?
3) Does anyone have an example they could post?
Thank you,
Doug

When I rejuvenated (I don't consider what I have done to be good enough to say "restored"

) a '74 DT360A and a '74 TX650A I had DEET do up VIN tags for me beforehand. These are pics I took of the two bikes before refinishing the frames.
I definitely would NOT cover up the stamped number/letter set. I would think an officer would take that as totally legitimate, and run that #, regardless of what the sticker indicated.
Apologies for the poor quality pics, I am somewhat digital camera-declined (

). Hope it helps.
The first 2 are the DT360A, the last is the TX650A. I do note the VIN number orientation on the sticker differs between the two bikes. Personally, in your case I would make the VIN tag agree with the stamping, so a quick look would just verify that the stamping and tag agree.

So I was able to find these pix on a youtube video of a 1975 DT175. They are pretty good, but I'm not sure if the sticker covers the stamped vin or not?

Already been said...don't cover your stamped numbers. Good examples with pics from the guys of actual installations.

It NEVER covered the stamped numbers.
I wouldn't trust that YouTube video as it looks like a "new" sticker... you should be able to find original photos or DEET probably knows if you ask him.
