Function of these fork internals was created by LWC82PE

Many of the 1970's KYB forks found on Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki had removable and replaceable valving parts in the bottom of the chrome fork inner tubes. By the late 70's these parts were crimped in at the factory and non removable.

Many aftermarket for kits for these forks from the 70's had parts to replace these KYB parts. Such brands were S&W, Terry Kit and Number One Products 'Trick-It'. Often these kits had different bottoming cones and the parts inside the valve assembly were replaced and it seems it was a common design that the middle piece was a disc with 4 slots in it.

What i want to know is, what exactly is the function of these parts in the bottom of the inner tubes and what are they doing? What are the aftermarket kits that replaced these parts trying to achieve?. I understand the holes in the damper rods But i would like to know more about these parts in the inner tubes. Below is an example of what i found in some 77 TS250 forks but i also found the same thing in 75 DT250 forks. I have some Terry and Trick-It parts that replace the top small ring, middle alloy part and the spring with different parts.
