All, trying to make lemonade out of lemons, if it will work. Got supposed earlier DT250 stator/rotor from ebay for cheap and found out its for 79/80 IT400/425.  Got it cheap(rusty) but able to clean up/ ohms check ok. The pair bolts onto my 75 MX250 fine.  Does anyone have any experience using this setup?  It has the stock lighting coil, the rotor taper cleaned up with beadblaster/scotch brite. I don't have the CDI unit so can'tdo a full test. Don't want to invest in that if there are major incompatibilty issues. Thanks

There should not be any "major incompatibility issues" as long as  there is enough adjustment to set the timing for your bike...  no reason there shouldn't be...

The challenge is that a few of the old CDI stators have ohm specs within range...  but are still bad.  This was more common on the pre-77 designs though.

If you want a new CDI box...  a member here (haven't seen them in several years) started a small company to make new CDI boxes and they might have something that fits yours...  and you could contact them for more info about whether it's worth the risk to try?  cdibox.com/product-category/other-products/

Another potential path is to try one of the inexpensive CDI boxes on Amazon...  I've had that work and if you search the Internet you can usually find wiring instructions.  This is the one I've used...  www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RRTC70/ No longer available but tons of similar ones out there.

Interesting, I may try one of those small 2 stroke cdi units.  Just need to get the wire connections sorted. Thanks for the suggestion.
