Hi.    Just wondering what everyone uses to maintain-avoid rusty fasteners.I’ll usually reuse the old bolts I’ve removed even if I’m installing a new or painted part.I’ve got an assortment of new metrics but never have faith their as quality as original. I clean them on wire brush but a month later their rusty again . Just wonder if anybody’s got a trick- clear coat? Wax,paint? I’ve got to spent a whole day soon on my street bike just removing & cleaning bolts-good paint good chrome-all the bolts are rusty.    Thanks Guys

You can use a protective lubricant such as Gibbs

or fresh zinc plating on all the original steel

 

I soak them in Evaporust , to clean off rust , wire brush to finish prep ,
and then off to the platers for Zincing .
