I’ve searched this forum and the web pretty good but couldn’t find any info regarding installing the governor. It has a notch like it should slide into a key on the shaft for alignment but I don’t see a key in there. I see a tab but it does not catch the groove in the governor. Am I missing something? I would assume that the spark advance should not be adjustable. That’s why the points are adjustable. I can post pics if this doesn’t make sense. Thanks in advance.

First question is if you had a complete bike or are assembling from boxes of parts?

Governor slot engages tab in end of armature/rotor...  I don't remember this being "tricky" at all which is why I wonder if maybe you have some mismatched parts?

It came off the motor. That’s why I’m so confused. I’ll take a pic tonight and post it.

Just incase i'm understanding your question wrong--Do you mean the armature [the big rotating thing] was off the motor & you're not sure what position to fit it on. There must be a keyway in the crank taper & same in the armature. Unless its broken the crank key off flush & hard to see. Or are we back to the advance mechanism on the end as hard to go wrong fitting any of that unless its been butchered by someone previously, or you're using a box of mismatched parts from models that don't interchange.

Ok, i guess it's got to be bent up enough to at least locate the governor. Don't think it'd be totally at right angles or might get in the way of the long mounting bolt. I'll go looking for a pic of a good one. But if its been bent down flat it's likely to break off if you try to go far back the other way. If you lined it up by eye without being located it won't slip as there's little effort involved in opening the points so wouldn't worry too much at this stage.
