1983 ag175 seal replacement was created by Izaac

Hi all Iv got to replace the clutch push rod seal on my 83 ag175 "grasshopper" IV ordered a flywheel puller is it simple to remove the left side cover? Remove flywheel and shift lever and then bolts? Is it a "dry Cover" as in no gasket this single cover goes over the front sprocket as well.

You shouldn't need to pull the flywheel to change a clutch pushrod seal.

Just remove the cover...  We didn't have that model here but pretty sure it's the same as our CT...  clutch cable goes into the side cover?

Yeah cable goes into the cover... But don't think I can get the bolts out with the cover on. The same cover goes over the rear sprocket as well I'll have another look

A picture would help a lot.

On that engine type you need to remove the cover...  there may be a cover over the flywheel and then the main cover over the sprocket.

Both covers come off without touching the flywheel.  If you are seeing screws behind the flywheel or down inside the cover, DO NOT REMOVE THEM.  They hold the center cases together.

Diagram of earlier US model should be helpful. You only need to remove parts 1 and 2 in the diagram here:  www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcy.../ct3/crankcase-cover

This parts link might be good to look through. Hit the Diagram button up there to change the pic. The Grasshopper never changed much if at all through its years--good bike too. Originally they had a fully enclosed chain so nothing got in there. But a good full length chain guard on the top run of the chain would help heaps.
