What would be good replacements for the front and rear fenders or mud guards?

Preston Petty are correct for the era and pretty affordable too, relative to oem.

You might try searching for Makotosun's threads on his TAT (Trans-American-Trail) bike... He likes the UFO rear fender with integral taillight and YZ front fender.

Here's a quote from one of his posts... I was also able to mock up the front/rear fenders on the project, so I can do all the mounting holes before I do the trim paint on them. The front is an Acerbis yellow Yamaha YZ fender (fairly modern style) while the rear is probably the only yellow UFO universal enduro fender that was ever imported.

Fun search and good reading.

I purchased a DG front fender for mine. You have to drill the holes to mount it to the bottom fork mount. It is very close to an original fender in shape, but is made of a different material. You will also need to paint it to match. Hint- Drill holes as far back as possible on "mounting pad" . To keep rear of fender from hitting exhaust pipe (don't ask).

Von,

I used a Preston Petty "Mudder" for the front on mine. It's a 1973 RT-3, 360 Enduro. But I think the DT-1/2/3 and the RT-1/2/3 use the same fenders as the DT250/360/400 of the 1974 and later years. You can't go wrong with Preston Petty fenders--they were on almost everybody's bikes back in the day. I even used a PP front Number Plate/Tool Box on the 1973 250MX that I had restored for my last desert race (in 2014 at the age of 61). Just checked, and for some reason I don't have pictures showing the number plate/toolbox on the 250MX. It's in a private collection now, and I don't remember what it is wearing now--guess I should check.
