I guess bottom line is the rod has to be close to central at the case joints & if too far out the rod eye could contact the piston eye but that's getting extreme. Also rod will have maybe 16thou 0.4mm side movement. If it came with a shim on the right side originally i wouldn't worry as must be good to go.

Quite so. As the cranks on these motors are located to drive side main, no real need to get that worked up over the shims.
