1978 on RD400 rear mudguard (fender) wanted. was created by Gr8uncleal
For those of you that peruse the small ads, or the online equivalent, please would you let me know if you come across a rear mudguard for a RD400.
The type I need has 4 holes for the rear light mount, surrounding 1 larger one for the wires. We in the UK got this style on the 1977 models onwards, but I think that the US got it a year later. I believe that the 1979 Daytona also had it.
Thanks.

Yes, that's the one (although incorrectly described as fitting the 1976 model!).
Out of stock, unfortunately.

Darn. When I saw the thumbnail it said it was in stock. When visiting the site it says out of stock.
Even the parts shops I use in Thailand and Singapore do not have one.
Proper rocking horse poo. I would suggest India would be your best bet for a knockoff one.

Thanks for your post, Steve.
Yes, some XS250/400 share the same front mudguard as the RD, but unfortunately the rears are different.
Nothing on HVC or Yambits. Batches of repros are produced from time to time, but they are nabbed quite quickly.
My 'D' model is currently wearing a 'C' rear mudguard and grab handle (see photos). I have the correct grab handle waiting to be fitted, but still require the correct mudguard. If I get impatient, I could always drill some holes in my existing mudguard, but would rather not!
I'm in the aircooledrd club, so I keep a lookout there as well.

Interesting that our 'D' models are different. The Euro version is more like the 'E' models here, with the small painted rear cowling. I do like the black and white striping! Did you acquire yours without the rear fender/mudguard setup? Mine came sans everything from the tank back. PO was trying to do a 'cafe racer', pitched a lot of the standard parts, added expansion chambers and clubman bars, and then just stopped. Had to gather parts as I could.

Mucho messing around with various parts, but ultimately I have a 'D' frame with a 'C' rear mudguard and would like to correct this. Obviously I can swap/part ex my 'C' muddie and stand handle if appropriate. I also have a spare rear light, but I don't think that these were model specific.

Here is the bike with the correct mudguard etc fitted - see how much tighter the rear light is to the seat now.
I just need to get on and clean it!
