is there a neutral switch on my 1975 512 dt250 there is a green light on the clocks but no bulb holder running to it

No, you have the wrong tacho fitted - this is quite common.

Tacho should have flasher and high beam lights only, red line at 7k and have an orange needle with a chrome boss.
