Sometimes parts books give dimensions, or they're included within the part number - original parts books often show how to "read" a part number.

Also, CMSNL often has photos of a part, and it is sometimes possible to read the dimensions stamped on the seal. Fleabay and internet images in general can also be used for this, as long as the image/listing can be trusted as correct (eg shown with original packing).
