On the paint removal piece I have had luck with acetone. Doesn’t dig into OEM Yamaha paint very quickly but will remove aftermarket paint and overspray fairly easily. Might be a good option for the paint inside your case and avoid introducing fine metal fibers from steel wool or drops from wire brushing.
