More Stator CDI questions DT 175MX was created by Rocket

 Hi All,
renovation near complete and am just at the process of trying to wire up a wiring loom which it never had so I can get lights etc working. The bike starts and runs fine. It is a 2K4 model with a CDI set up. My question is that when I look at the wires coming from the stator/magneto area, I only have 3 ( Brown/Black/Red white stripe  ) looking at others online and the manual it suggest 4. Am I missing a  red wire or did some models have 3? The CDI has 6 of that helps at all? I have not taken the magneto off yet to see if one has snapped off short but can’t see anything.
appreciate any help and have posted a pic of progress so far.    Hi All,

Are you sure there's a lighting coil in there--i guess there should be-- lighting is yellow with another one or two options for charging etc.

The brown, white/red, and black are the correct and only CDI wires that come from the stator for the later 6 wire CDI.

But like Morley said, you're missing the headlight (yellow) and charging (solid and/or striped green) wire(s).  Normally the neutral light wire (light blue) is also in the harness from the stator.

Hi Guys
thanks for that, you may be on to something I hadn’t even considered, will take a proper look tonight, presuming it has no lighting coil and I can get one for this model, is it worth considering adding it? or best to  look for a complete replacement part with lighting coil already in place?
many thanks
Scott

There isn't much documented info available on the 2K4 in the US...  from browsing UK websites years ago I'm under the impression that the early models had the 7 wire CDI box and the later models had the 6 wire CDI box...  and that the change happened when the oil tank was moved to the right side and and air filter to the left side which was in the 1980 model year here.

Maybe with the flywheel numbers or something...  like knowing the model year...  you can ID which ignition you have?  A lighting coil could very well be available new or aftermarket.

Why would someone remove a lighting coil anyway. Might be still hiding in there, just turn the flywheel a bit & you'll see it--or not.

No lighting/charging coil.  You can see where it belongs on the right
