Greetings from California! I've posted on the Facebook forum a few times, but haven't properly introduced myself here.
I recently got a 1972 DT2 250. Most of my vintage bikes are 1960's era Hondas. I also have a 1973 Aermacchi 350 Sprint. The DT2 is my first Yamaha and my first two stroke! It's very different riding the Yamaha compared to the Hondas.
When we initially got the bike, it was having a fuel delivery issue. It'd run for a bit then die. And then I couldn't get it started again. We removed the petcock bowl and saw debris in it. I removed and cleaned the carb and we also installed an inline fuel filter as the petcock filter was missing. Now the bike runs much better.
I will likely be asking a lot of questions, so I thank you for your patience and knowledge in advance. I'll post a photo once we're able to do so.

At the moment, photos can only be posted using a third party host - I use Imgur.
If the bike has been stood for years, then change both sets of brake shoes - new ones are still available from Yamaha.
If you want to use the headlight and are sticking with the original 6v system, then you will need to fit a 6v voltage regulator.

Welcome, from Long Beach California!
I also have a 1972 DT2 250. Bought at the beginning of last year. I was lucky that it was mostly original and no major problems with the engine or electrical.
