Came across this forum a couple of days ago, and spent quite a while reading. It was refreshing to see a good deal of helpful technical information, and maybe members might be able to assist me with rebuilding an old Yamaha trials bike, which I am told was based on the DT175? 

I think its 175cc, but not sure on that as the PO wasnt sure, so it might be a 125, as I have seen pictures of both, and they seem to be exactly the same other than stickers on the sidepanel?

What are the first three characters of the engine and frame number (the complete numbers should hopefully match)? Also, the capacity may well be cast into the bottom of the barrel.

As Uncle Al said. Model prefix is key to ID.

If it was a pukka yamaha trials 175, off the top of my head, the prefix would likely be 525.

Is this below a problem for OP getting replies.
Was just checking his profile to see if other related post previously.
I'm guessing OP is new but only guessing.
