Hi,
Just been out on my Dt400 and something flew up from traffic in front and has smashed my headlight glass/lens, this may sound dumb but I've measured the retainer and it measures 5.5 inches in diameter, but all the info I find keeps mentioning 5.75 inches, what's left of the glass measure 5.5 inches  obviously if the lens glass measures 5.75 inches in diameter it won't fit, what Im trying badly to explain, is mine original at 5.5 inches ...phew

any help be greatly appreciated

5.5 is a common motorcycle headlamp size and is still available, that's what I ran on my hardtailed Triumph. Not sure of the actual dimension of the glass, but you can just google (5.5" motorcycle headlamp) and get plenty of results.

It was just whether to google a 5.5 or a 5.75  glass measures 5.5 but bowl measures 5.75

If your old light measures 5.5 and fit, I'd put a 5.5 back in it. Was there enough glass left to read the part# on the back of the light?

Nothing much left of the glass I'm afraid, makes sense to fit a 5.5 just confused about sizing

I don't know how they measure but the US DT400b used a standard 5 3/4" sealed beam.

Harder to find these in 6v these days but they are available on ebay.

You can also replace with a H4 5 3/4 reflector with a replaceable 6v H4 bulb... most come with 12v bulbs but you can source 6v bulbs.

Cheers,
I'm on a 12v system anyway, I've probably managed to confuse myself and others  and looking too deep, but ill find one and contact them direct and ask for a glass diameter before I purchase, its all confusing but could have been worse, could have been flying debris hitting the tank.

Stay safe

If you're on 12v, much easier and cheaper. H5006 is the halogen number. Unless someone has swapped your headlight bucket?

Jeeps and Harley Davidson are two of the most common vehicles that still use the 5 3/4" light bulb. Auto parts store should have one.

Just some trivia as I did some lighting work in Hollywood/LA years ago...

Headlight bulbs fall into the "PAR"... Parabolic Aluminized Reflector... class of bulbs. They are identified by PARXX where the XX indicates the OD.

Trick is they are measured by maximum outside diameter in 1/8" increments. (Not measured by reflector or glass size) What you do is take the OD of the light and divide by 1/8". A 5 3/4" OD light would be industry classified as a PAR46.

More than anyone ever wanted to know... but can help if looking for an oddball bulb.
