DT2 headlight alternatives? was created by AirborneSilva

Are there any alternatives for the DT2 headlight?  I've been able to find me a new sealed beam but they are not cheap and a regular sealed beam wont work but looking at the back of it I was wondering if the bulb can be removed and replaced.

A regular sealed beam will work with common spring clips to hold it.  Tons of posts on it.

Replacing bulb can be done but not if you want to actually see anything at night.  Filament has to be in precisely located to focus light and I've never seen a replacement bulb in a sealed beam that is...  I've tried it myself...  not impossible to get a decent beam pattern but not too likely.

See link below for what I did with mine, Tony. As Mark says, though, not guaranteed to get as good a beam dispersal as with the original.

My first attempt at repairing a sealed beam headlight. - Vintage Enduro Discussions (yamaha-enduros.com)

I recall that Doug in Canada (run103) found some 6v leds that worked ok.

Keep an eye out for part number 214-84120-61 (see attached photos). This is the earlier headlight which you could change the bulb on and is identical in every other way to your sealed beam one.

The ones fitted to the early CT1 and maybe some ones fitted to early 12v bikes will be suitable - I'm pretty sure that the volts and watts printed on the back are user info only. They all take an American Pre Focus (APF) bulb, and so you will also need a bulb holder for this.

Thanks Mark and Alan.  I did a search, well several using different wording but can't find anything on alternatives or workarounds.  I also wend through several pages of threads none of which had anything to do with headlights.  I did find other useful information so it wasn't a waste of time...  Tony
