Picked up this DT2 yesterday, she starts right up first or second kick cold, first kick warm.  Runs great but I need to figure out a clutch issue with it.  When you pull the clutch lever in and put it in gear if will jump very slightly but then when you let the clutch lever out it does nothing...  Ideas?  I did order a new clutch cable as it's adjustment was at the end.

Smell the oil & see if it smells like burnt clutch linings. Other than that, not sure. So long as you have clearance on the actuator centre adjuster at rest then it has to drive unless its been assembled incorrectly in the clutch. even that doesn't add up as would still drive. Only other thing-- assuming you don't know what's been played with inside--is, has it had a pressure plate fitted of the splined type which if fitted wrong will sit on the end of the centre rather than slide on the centre-- "call it the hub"--& won't compress the plates. My guess is burnt out plates.

Nice find, Tony!

Re the clutch, if the cable doesn't sort it, maybe check the nylon worm/housing on the inside of the left crank case cover - they are prone to cracking. No problem though, as KDI now offer a replacement.

I'll answer your headlight query on that thread later on.

Minor, anorak point, but the stripe on your front mudguard (fender!) was fitted to 1973 models.

Thanks for the answer, I will see if I can smell the oil to see if burnt or not.  I have contemplated removing the side cover to see what the clutch looks like but was hoping to not have to do that at this point.  Odometer is only showing about 6,000 miles but then I don't know if it even works since I can't ride it...

Hi Alan, I'm currently soaking the side cover in my sonic cleaner to see if I can loosen things up, the darn thing was so caked with old grease that when you pulled the clutch then released it the spring would slowly pull it back (f that makes sense).  I am not able to adjust the actuator, seems the nut has welded it self to the bolt, so I have ordered a new nut and bolt.

To your point on the stripe, I was wondering about that as I've not seen it on any pictures of DT2's.  The finder is also missing one of the connectors (for lack of better word), that goes from the finder to the fork, see picture.  So I'll be on the hunt for that.

Airborne you can make your own fender stay out of 3/8 hollow aluminum rod and polish it to chrome like finish. I  made one for my Ct1c no one has noticed it easy and cheap

I painted mine silver  because the other stays had some rust on them plus I ride mine on the trails. Nice find on your DT2

HT1KID, nice job on the fabrication!  I will definitely give that a try, I'm not looking to make this a concourse restoration so I will probably paint my stays silver to match the fender as well, mine too have some rust on them.  I was pleased to find this DT2 and in fairly good condition as well!
