RT1 identification please was created by Tinker man
Hi all, it’s been a while since I was on but life took over.
back now with my RT1 project. As a reminder I have a 021 beginning frame number so 1970 but registered in 71. So a ‘first” RT1 not 2/3.
I need lots of parts and before I place an order for them from a nice chap on here from the states could someone tell me if this bike is a 71 RT1 or as I suspect a 73 RT3. I contacted the seller who tells me it’s a 71 but the frame number he provided indicates a 73. RT1 - 1346**
can any clever person on here make an identification from the photos hopefully attached? Or look up eBay uk item number 388150483631. ? There are lots of parts I need here and if I could get a good price it makes sense. If it’s wrong year then it doesn’t and back to importing.. not sure I got the photo links right.
many thanks in advance, ian.

Couldn't come up with anything on ebay pasting the number into ebay uk or ebay.com or by advanced search. Just proves I'm hopeless at searching haha. What part am I looking for?. Or am I misunderstanding. Tank looks rt2 or 3. Cylinder puts it as rt2 or 3 but both those things could be changed easily. I'm no good at researching engine numbers but I'm sure someone will have it sorted shortly. Like those rear shocks. Cheers from nz.

Confirming what you said according to the list I have of serial numbers for US models you have a 1970 RT1. The one for sale on eBay UK is a 1973 RT3. Many parts will fit but not be correct if you are trying to restore yours to original factory condition.
Whole engine and forks can be swapped but have some different internal parts.
Gas tank, seat, air filter box, carb boot, battery box are different. Will fit as a whole set but not mixed up.
There will be other differences.

Thanks everyone. I am not precious about total originality so it’s interesting that the whole set up will fit. It is probably cheaper than bringing over the water all those parts. I assume chain guard etc will fit? I have been told before I think but don’t seem to be able to find that.
I do need a tank seat air filter and oil tank so this could be a good way to go if can get foe reasonable money. Some switchgear there in the parts pile too and would have a spare engine exhaust etc even if slightly different.
Any and all input/corrections are welcome.
Many thanks. Ian

Link still comes up 'no exact match'. Thought might be my phone but same on desktop computer. No worries. Thanks Gr8uncleal. If i remember correctly there's minor differences between RT1 frame. Seat was better thicker on the RT1.

Morning. No exact match is probably because the listing has ended now anyway…. Too slow again.
Thanks for your input anyway.
Best regards. Ian.

Yes probably gr8uncleal. Seller told me it was also advertised on Facebook. Also said he may keep it. He was also adamant he had a Yamaha dating cert for 71. But not sure what that was about with that frame number. Anyway back to plan B.
I will be contacting a certain member on here very soon and raid my bank for import duties.
Cheers
