AT1 not starting / running anymore was created by Jogar
Howdy fellas, back again.
The AT1 I’ve been working on won’t start. I’m running a vape ignition. Here’s what I have observed:
Running a filtered clear fuel line from tank to carb, it seems that fuel stops coming out shortly after attached to carb.
that being said, I ran an aux gas tank with a different line, and it’s very rich.
it sputters and seems like it wants to start, but won’t fully start. Ive kicked it over with the air filter off and the exhaust off , and it would appear to have lots of fuel. It smokes and sometimes shoots the odd flame out the exhaust port.
I took the carb off and cleaned it, ran pressurized air through it.
here’s the link, help!
please and thanks. Link to a video of me struggling below !

In the video are you opening the throttle, bit hard to tell. Could it have pushed a crank seal out. Is the timing firing at 1.8 or close to it. Can only guess when it doesn't fire long enough to get a good idea sorry. Is it a homemade base gasket--i guess not but have seen one without transfers cut out--not yamaha coz we wouldn't do that would we haha. Right side seal would smoke crazy if it ran at all but sure wouldn't sound rich, but very lean & same with left side. Ok i'll go for ignition very retarted like about tdc but just a guess.

Thanks for the reply! I was opening the throttle ever so slightly in the video. It’s a base gasket from a kit I bought.
i feel like a crank seal may be the culprit.. perhaps I’ll drain the oil and check it out next time I’m at the farm.
would that explain why it sputters and dies? And the copious amounts of smoke?
I put the vape magneto on, then couldn’t figure how to get it off, as the flywheel puller is the incorrect thread… but it did run at one point with the timing where it was. Unless it slipped somehow.
thanks .

Good point, it could have slipped.
But i'll but my money on the right crank seal at this point.
I've been wrong before & i'll likely be wrong again but gotta cover all bases.
Right crank seal out just pours trans oil in sort of, sucks & blows & doesn't like running due to massive quantities of air available.

You’ve done it again. I just replaced the seal on the right crank, it was all the way out… I’m going to slap everything back together and see if she goes.
thanks!!

Seal was replaced, all put back together. Still not running, enough time has passed now since the initial issue that now I’m sure I’ll have to clean the carb again. Heading to farm in the next couple days here to try and get er running.
***also, pro tip, if you buy a VAPE ignition you should also buy the vape puller tool, which is a special thread that’s different than normal flywheel pullers ***
I’ll be taking the flywheel off to ensure the timing is correct. Wish me luck!

Good luck!
I'm also wondering if you bought directly from VAPE? Original owner Powerdynamo used to include the puller with the kit and the last VAPE I got from VAPE did too... I did notice some of the resellers charge extra for the puller.
Good tip in any case!

Also, I'm not sure why you're removing the flywheel to check the timing?
If you have the piston 1.8mm BTDC the timing marks on flywheel and stator should line up. Period.
Only time you'd pull the flywheel would be to re-position it if timing was off.
