‘68 DT1? was created by msavitt

Seems like I’ve seen this bike / story before.  Could very well be true, does anyone have insight into legitimacy of this bike?

The comments are interesting. One person (ambike1) indicates this bike has been previously shopped around by the seller, while another (drdrmann) notes what is correct and steps needed to bring it to original condition. Will be curious to see how this auction plays out.

I know Drdrmann.. the bike has been shopped at $10K - $15K for nearly 5.9 years or so. The story of the man who went to war and never returned is worthy of a moment of silence. Personally, I think it will do poorly and by poorly I mean $3K. Drdrmann just bought a 68’ for $2750.00 within 10 days.

Here's an old post from this forum a few years back...  (only post 40 applies to VIN 2811)

Rear fender sure was extended back then...  Probably where the extra holes came from

Forgot to mention it also had a chrome chain guard extension back then...  which might explain the holes in the chain guard.

When you read the old post here and then the BAT ad, it kinda seems like the BAT ad might have some BS?  Seems to be different people at least and they both couldn't buy it from the original family.

Of course I could be wrong...  just seems like something's not quite legit with the stories?

Seems like a decent rider if someone wants one and it actually sells for a reasonable price.

Sold at $7100. Pretty intense bidding war at the end among 3 people..

I've been watching BAT listing on DT1s for a handful of months (and trying to join this forum for a while).
When that one was listed, I did a search on the bike and that post by "Art" avc2020 was on the first page of results. The inconsistencies between the two did raise an eyebrow. Then I read this thread and the BAT comment made sense. The more I looked into the bike, the more questions I had.

One I'm curious about the answer to:
The listing states clean NJ title. Then a comment by the seller states "His dad of which the bike is still Titled".
What's the process of titling a bike in your name w/ a title presumably not endorsed by the owner of title (who was likely deceased at the time of that trf), with who knows what documentation of legal transfer to Art and/or Latteri in 2020, and then his bill of sale to you in 2023? Having gone through the hoops of titling an previously untitled used bike in Oregon not too long ago, that sounds like possible nightmare.
