VAPE Ignition System was created by pabdt
I have only used it 2 days and about 15 minutes on my 360. I'm sure this is not news to some, but for those of you thinking about a kit:
* easy install. eliminates CDI box leaving space for other things.
* easy to set timing
* charges really well. I may sub my DT125As battery in there and charge it.
* lighting is rock solid even at low rpm.
* willing to bet I could easily hook a phone charger up and still have plenty wattage left over.
Overall, great investment for those on the fence about installing one.

Great to hear even if it is too modern for me lol. I guess it's--get with the program or go home!!. Thanks for the info & you describe it exactly as i like to hear--so i can visualise it.
Just to open a can of worms i read once not sure where but if you take the earth wire on a normal mag lighting coil & run 'it' plus the main wire [so both ends] to a regulator rectifier & i guess with a 12volt battery--it turns it into a 12volt system? with "some" ability. I'm sure it's not a patch on the Vape system though.

TRANSFORMER: (disclaimer: I am not an electrician)
primary: 120v
secondary: 240v.
Note, there is ALOT left out there, but still interesting how it is similar to the DT lighting coil(s).
DT TRANSFORMER:
As I was reading the manual, I noted daytime running only used 1/2 the coil and the full coil for nightime.
So, I would guess that doubling winding length could, as you stated, double voltage if the 2 coils were connected in series, ie
NEG [lighting coil] POS >>> NEG [charge coil] POS.
Would a battery or rectifier be needed at all? Could we just run straight AC like factory? of course, unstable vs dc. Have you actually tested output doing this?
In your case, you are creative so I could see you doing this. ME on the other hand, I just wanted the guys in CZ to make me a flywheel and stator I could just bolt on. Guess I was slackin.

Now, you really want to do something wild. Wire a 2nd coil in as a security feature w/a switch on primary coil. If not switched off uh oh.

I'll add one more plus to installing the Vape 12v system, I installed on on my 76 DT400, no more kickback! I have no problem kicking the bike over with my Sketchers "go walk" shoes on where as before I wouldn't dare kicking it without my boots on. If my RT3 didn't run so good I'd put the Vape on that too. I will be installing it on my 75 DT400 for sure!

Wish they had been available when I was rebuilding my 360A for sure. I wouldn't have gone through so much grief!
Where do you mount up the battery? In the CDI space?

If you recall, the oil tank serves as a battery tray also.
cdi box area is empty…for now.
