An alcohol and wintergreen (3:1) mix will soften rubber and will induce some minor swelling. This mixture worked on my RT-1 carb/air cleaner rubber plenum. Wintergreen is not cheap, but for a rare part might be worth a try. At the time I could not find a plenum so this procedure made my original usable.

I use a variable temp heat gun on all rubber parts and wire harness with the plastic jackets on them. softens them up nice so you can move them or install them easy. Especially in the fall and winter.
